About The Artist

In my early thirties, i followed my dream and enrolled in art school. I would later graduate from the academy of art in San Francisco, where I concentrated on the printmaking techniques of photo silkscreen, etching, lithography and monoprints.  I then focused on my own start-up silk textile painting business.  My clients often remarked that my hand painted silk fabrics were artwork that should be displayed in galleries.   Several times I was engaged to produce large pieces for folding screens and wall hangings.  These commissions were a natural progression to my carrying out my ideas on a much larger scale, using oils and acrylics on canvas.

Starting each new painting is for me like a new adventure.  as I translate my energy and love of color onto the canvas, the canvas itself starts to take on a life of its own.   The totally unexpected can reveal itself as the colors take shape on the blank canvas, opening up unforeseen avenues of direction and possibilities.

Over time I have come to embrace the freedom of expression and spontaneity in abstracted art.  The dance that unfolds between the painter and the emerging image has no rules or boundaries. The element of surprise can be one brushstroke away and may present a change of direction, if the artist chooses to take it.   I am often guided in the process of painting by my intuition, partly influenced by vague impressions left from past experience, my emotions and even the rhythm and drama of the music I am listening to.  I am not bound to the original vision I had when I started the journey on canvas.   I welcome the element of surprise along the way and the challenge of trusting myself to go down an unexplored path.  There is always the opportunity for the unforeseen to take you way beyond your imagination.  This, for me, is the joy and beauty in abstracted art.  the spontaneity is what brings excitement to the dance taking place between the painter and the painting.

I love working with mixed media and every variety of tool, each leaving their own distinctive quality of texture and markings.  I find beauty in palettes of every hue and color, but in my own work I often gravitate towards vivid colors.  I anticipate that my paintings will always be evolving as I continue to explore the endless possibilities available to artists.
